2022 ARSTM Article of the Year

Alexander, Jamal-Jared and Avery C. Edenfield. “Health and Wellness as Resistance: Tactical Folk Medicine,” Technical Communication Quarterly 30.3 (2021): 241-256.

From the committee:

“We were particularly taken by the ways in which the article demonstrates a commitment to inclusive language, examples, and citational practices, while also pushing for ideas that are uncharacteristic and therefore absolutely necessary in our field. The article’s call to “become accomplices” for marginalized communities by understanding motivations behind “noncompliant” behaviors is the kind of call-to-action that has the potential to spark change and growth. We anticipate that scholars will invoke and extend upon your work on this front for years to come.”

Honorable Mention

The committee also selects two honorable mentions:

  • Salzano, Matthew and Misti Yang. “Going off scripts: Emotional labor and technoliberal managerialism,” Critical Studies in Media Communication 39.2 (2022, published online 2021): 78-91.
  • Jones, Madison. “A Counterhistory of Rhetorical Ecologies,” Rhetoric Society Quarterly 51:4 (2021): 336-352.
