Announcing the ARSTM Article of the Year!

The ARSTM Article of the Year Award Committee is pleased to announce the winner and honorable mentions for 2021. Please join us for the presentation of the award at the ARSTM’s business meeting during the National Communication Association conference on November 15, 2021 (time and location TBD).

2021 ARSTM Article of the Year

Yam, Shui-yin Sharon. “Visualizing birth stories from the margin: Toward a reproductive justice model of rhetorical analysis.” Rhetoric Society Quarterly 50.1 (2020): 19-34.

From the committee:

We were particularly impressed with how Yam’s article uses an innovative methodology and approach for considering culturally resonant artifacts: episodes of Doula Diaries. The article is both analytically innovative and has important applied lessons for health, science, and technology-oriented communication. We anticipate that scholars will invoke and extend upon Yam’s reproductive justice model of rhetorical analysis for years to come.

Honorable Mention

The committee also selected three articles as honorable mention:

  • Bloom-Pojar, Rachel, and Maria Barker. “The role of confianza in community-engaged work for reproductive justice.” Reflections: A Journal of Community Engaged Writing and Rhetoric 20.2 (2020): 84-101.
